People of the demonstrations and restaurants.
In Maharashtra today, liquor was not found on 14 July. On Monday, the owners of more than 22,000 hotels and bars announced the statewide 'bar closed' strike. This step has been taken against the decision of the Fadnavis government, in which he has decided to put VAT with an increase in excise and license fee. The strike was led by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (Hrawi).
The Maharashtra Excise Department has increased liquor from 5% to 10% VAT, 15% increase in license fees and 65%, which is being opposed in Maharashtra this year. Today, the impact of this captive was seen in Mumbai. Local bar drivers attended the demonstration outside Vijayalakshmi Bar located in Chembur area of Mumbai.
State government came down on arbitrariness
In a special conversation with NewsNCR Digital, Suresh Shetty, the zonal vice president of the diet, said that the state government has come down on arbitrariness. This decision of the state government, in which they have increased VAT from five percent to 10% on liquor, have been reduced to 15%, while production duty has been reduced to 65%, this will cause a huge injury to their business.
Due to increase in liquor prices, due to increase in license fees and increasing production duty, it will have a direct impact on business and the final effect will be on the customer. This is because if the prices of alcohol increase then the production duty increases. Then this money will be charged from customers.
Now customers will not come in the bar!
In such a situation, the customers who like to eat food in bar and restaurant with their family, they will not come now. Most of the middle class, lower middle class and lower class are in it. They will be affected the most. Along with this, those who work in this industry will also be on their salary. Therefore, the government should reconsider this decision again.
According to the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India, local hotel associations in many cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Sambhajinagar, Lonawala, Mahabaleshwar, Palghar and Vasai supported the decision to shut down bar and liquor services.
Tourists will also affect it
It is feared that tax increase will have a serious impact on the restaurant and bar supporting the tourism and commercial hospitality of Maharashtra. The association has expressed concern that this can make Maharashtra the most expensive state to run the bar in the country, which can affect tourists as well as local businesses.
Please tell that the State Excise Department is with Ajit Pawar. There is a lot of resentment among the bar drivers with this decision of the state government. It remains to be seen whether the state government withdraws its decision or similarly this movement will continue.
Now how many will you get alcohol
After increasing the fee in Maharashtra, a bottle of 180 ml of indigenous liquor, instead of 60-70 rupees, has now increased to 80 rupees. The liquor made in Maharashtra will now get Rs 148. Foreign liquor made in India has now been Rs 205 instead of 130 and premium foreign liquor has increased to Rs 360 instead of 210.
The Maharashtra government had received revenue of Rs 23,250 crore from excise duty on liquor in 2023-24 financial year. After the increase in the fee, the government expects an additional revenue of Rs 14,000 crore. The state consumes beer, wine, indigenous liquor and IMFL.
