Ahmedabad aircraft accident.
AAIB (AAICRAFT Accident Investigation Bureau) has submitted its preliminary report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other concerned agencies regarding the Ahmedabad aircraft accident. This report is based on initial conclusions related to Air India flight AI-171 accident. The ministry says that the crash protection module (CPM) was safely evacuated from the front black box of the aircraft. On 25 June 2025, its memory module was accessed and data was downloaded in Aaib's lab in Delhi.
Sources said that a uniform black box, called 'Golden Chassis', was used to confirm the purity of the data. After the accident, the first black box was recovered from the roof of a building on 13 June and the second from debris on 16 June. Aaib's DG is leading the investigation. The Investigation Team consists of experts from the Indian Air Force, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the US National Transport Safety Board (NTSB).
Aaib engaged in investigation with Indian officials
The NTSB team is currently present in Delhi. She is engaged in technical investigation with Indian officials in Aaib Lab. Apart from this, officials of Boeing and GE (General Electric) are also present in Delhi for technical assistance. The special thing is that aviation medical expert and air traffic control officer have also been included in this investigation team.
Earlier, black box decoding work used to be done outside the country
Earlier, the black box decoding of serious aircraft accidents was done outside India. For example, in the 1996 Charkhi Dadri accident, Black Box was decoded in Moscow and Farnbero, UK. In the 2010 Mangalore accident, the recorder was repaired and decoding by NTSB of America. Similarly, in the 2015 Delhi accident, the help of America was taken in Canada and 2020 Kozhikode accident.
