Rahul Gandhi
On the completion of 8 years of GST, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has targeted the Modi government. Rahul said that GST of Modi government is not a tax reform but it is a cruel means of economic injustice and corporate nepotism. It was designed to punish the poor, crush MSME, weaken the states and benefit some billionaire friends of the Prime Minister.
Rahul further said that 'Good and Simple Tax' was promised. Instead, India got a system of five slab tax regime, in which more than 900 has been amended. Even the caramel popcorn and cream are trapped in its confusion.
He said that the bureaucracy's labyrinth is in favor of big corporates, who can remove its flaws with the army of accountants, while small shopkeepers, MSMEs and common traders are immersed in red tape. The GST portal remains the source of harassment.
GST for MSME in 8 years
Rahul said that due to GST, India's biggest employment generator MSME has suffered the most. More than 18 lakh enterprises have been closed since the implementation of GST eight years ago. People now pay GST on everything from tea to health insurance, while corporates enjoy more than 1 lakh crore tax exemption annually.
The Congress MP said that petrol and diesel have been deliberately excluded from the GST structure, causing loss to farmers, transporters and common people. GST dues are being used as a weapon to punish non-BJP ruled states, which is a clear proof of the anti-federal agenda of the Modi government.
GST was a visionary idea of UPA
Rahul said that GST was a visionary idea of UPA. Its purpose was to integrate India markets and simplify taxation. But the Modi government made it completely spoiled. A reform GST should be Pipul First, Business Friendly and truly federal spirit. He further said that India deserves a tax system that works for everyone, not only for some privileged people, so that every Indian from small shopkeepers to farmers can become a stakeholder in the progress of our country.
