Jayant Patil.
Political stir has intensified before the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra. All the major parties are busy in election preparations, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Sharad Chandra Pawar faction has emerged. Since Saturday morning, there was reports of the resignation of senior party leader and state president Jayant Patil from the post of president in the media.
In the recently organized NCP (Sharad Pawar) faction, state president Jayant Patil had indicated that he wanted to be free from his post. Patil said in his address, “Pawar Saheb has given me a lot of opportunities. I have worked in this position for seven years. Now new faces should get a chance. I request you to free me from the post of state president.”
Since then, the news of Patil's resignation has been in the news in the media. However, NCP national spokesperson and MLA Jitendra Awhad has rejected these reports as rumors.
What did Jitendra Awhad say on Jayant Patil's resignation?
He wrote in a social media post, “Jayant Patil Sahab is the state president. Spreading the news of his resignation is a sheer mischief. The party runs under a certain rule and discipline.”

There are two opinions inside the party regarding resignation. While Jitendra Awhad has described these reports as baseless, on the other hand NCP MLA Rohit Pawar while talking to the media admitted that Jayant Patil is going to resign and the new state president will be announced on 15 July. According to Rohit Pawar, on the same day Jayant Patil himself will announce the name of the new president.
Shashikant Shinde can be made new president
Meanwhile, the name of Legislative Council member Shashikant Shinde is under discussion as a potential new state president. According to sources, Shinde can be given the command of the party and he can take over on 15 July.
After the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Maharashtra last year, the round of local body elections is going to start. In such a situation, this possible leadership change in NCP-SP is considered important in terms of electoral strategy.
Now it has to be seen in which direction the party takes this change and does Jayant Patil actually step down or is it only part of internal strategy? Everyone is eyeing the formal announcement on July 15.
