In a significant boost to Bihar’s railway infrastructure, the central government has announced four new Amrit Bharat trains that will strengthen the state’s connectivity with major cities across the country. The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to Bihar, where he also laid the foundation stone for several development projects under the Ministry of Railways.
New Amrit Bharat Train Routes Announced
According to reports by news agency PTI, the four new Amrit Bharat trains will soon begin operations on the following routes:
New Delhi – Patna
Darbhanga – Lucknow
Malda Town – Lucknow
Saharsa – Amritsar
These trains are designed to enhance long-distance travel and improve railway connectivity for both Bihar and neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
Karpoorigram Station to Be Upgraded
During his visit to the Samastipur rail division, Vaishnaw inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple projects. One of the key announcements was the redevelopment of Karpoorigram station at a cost of ₹3.3 crore. The station will be equipped with upgraded passenger facilities including:
A modern station building
Waiting halls and toilets
Digital information systems
Drinking water facilities
Ramps for differently-abled passengers
The Railway Minister also conducted a site inspection of Digha Bridge Halt in Patna, where he reviewed the cleanliness, lighting, and overall security arrangements.
In addition, he laid the foundation stone for an underground railway subway at Karpoorigram station, to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹14 crore. The subway is aimed at improving passenger movement and safety at the station.
Political Significance
The flurry of railway announcements and project inaugurations comes at a politically crucial time, with Bihar set to play a key role in upcoming elections. The Centre’s focus on railway development in the state is being viewed as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its electoral prospects while addressing infrastructure needs.
These developments are part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at transforming railway stations across India with enhanced amenities and better passenger experience.
