Authority of prisoners is necessary
Order is being done by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to every state that all the prisoners in the jail should be given Aadhaar authentication, along with this, their ID should be linked to Aadhaar. Instructions have also been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding this. Along with this, strict instructions have also been given to conduct the Aadhaar authentication of the people who meet the prisoners in jail.
For Aadhaar authentication, the Home Ministry has made a proforma, which has to be maintained. The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought details of prisoners in their jails from all states. In which the number, their base authentication, linkage of their ID from Aadhaar and a detailed report of those who meet the prisoners in jail in the last year and a half have sought a detailed report in the last one and a half years.
Home Ministry gave orders a year and a half ago
A letter was written by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to all the states one and a half years ago (September 2023) in this regard. Details of prisoners in jail have been sought in all this state. Along with this, instructions were given to get Aadhaar linking and Aadhaar authentication done. Now the Ministry of Home Affairs has directed to strictly follow it and has also sought its details from all the states.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Home Affairs gave instructions to all states and union territories to prepare e-prisoners databases under reforms in jail manuals in September 2023. Under this, the prisoners and they were asked to make a database of visitors.
Millions of prisoners are jailed in jail
There are many jails in India, where millions of prisoners are closed. According to a report in January 2025, there were a total of 5,06,660 prisoners in India. Of these, about 3.75 lakh prisoners were under consideration. The government has issued orders to verify the basis of all the prisoners present in the jail and those who meet them.
