Making a big announcement, the Central Government has also allowed private motorcycles to use commercial use with an exradator like Ola-Rapido. Now any person can use his bike or scooter as a private two-wheeler taxi through the app and earns it.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has released a new motor vehicle aggregator guideline on Tuesday. Under this, the state governments can now allow the use of non-commercial (private) motorcycles for passenger rides. After this move of the government, this long-standing problem has been resolved, in which the use of private two-wheelers in the form of taxi was considered illegal in many places.
What will be the benefits of new decisions
According to the new guidelines, the state government may allow private (non-commercial) motorcycles to be used as a sharing mobility for passengers. This will reduce traffic jams and pollution caused by trains. Also, people will be able to get cheap ride facilities, hyperlokal delivery and new employment opportunities.
Government can charge fees
According to the guidelines, the state government can allow private motorcycles to be used through app based services such as aggregators for passenger rides under Section 67 (3) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Apart from this, the state government can also charge fees from aggregators instead of allowing these services. This fee can be fixed on daily and per week basis.
Companies welcomed the decision
Bike taxi -riding companies like Ola, Rapido and Uber have welcomed this decision. This step has brought relief especially in those states, such as Karnataka, where there were large -scale protests due to ban on bike taxi. Companies described this guideline as “future thinking move”, which will promote innovation and clarity about the rules.
