Pakistan Army Chief Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
After the Pahalgam terror attack and operation vermilion, speculation has intensified to remove Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari. Amidst these speculation, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has received a big statement on Saturday. Shahbaz Sharif has dismissed the speculation of President Asif Ali Zardari forcing President Asif Ali Zardari to quit the post and to become the President of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Prime Minister has termed these claims as “mere rumors and baseless speculation”.
Sharif said in a conversation with Pakistan's leading English newspaper The News, “Field Marshal Asim Munir has never expressed his desire to become President nor is any such plan under consideration.”
The Prime Minister made it clear that he has strong relations based on mutual respect and shared objective, Pakistan's progress and prosperity, between President Zardari and Army Chief Munir. He said that such rumors are only trying to spread instability.
Home Minister Naqvi's statement to remove Zardari
The statement came after the statement made by Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi a day earlier, in which he strongly condemned the “malicious campaign” targeting Zardari, Sharif and Munir on social media platforms 'X' (East Twitter).
Naqvi clearly said that who is behind this campaign, everyone knows, neither the President has been asked to resign nor has any desire to become President on behalf of the army chief.
The Home Minister also questioned the role of foreign hostile agencies in this alleged campaign and said, “Those who are part of this conspiracy, whatever they do together, our commitment is to make Pakistan strong and stable again. Inshallah, we will take every important step.”
Munir's tenure increased from three to 5 years
Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed as Army Chief for three years in 2022, but his tenure has been extended by the government to five years. According to sources, they can be given further expansion in the future.
During the election last year, Zardari supported Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. In lieu of this support, Zardari was made the President of the country for five years. Along with this, the ruling party has good relationship with Bilawal Bhuttas, son of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Recently, Bilawal Bhutto was entrusted with the responsibility of leading an international delegation, who is visiting the capitals of various countries to share the changing circumstances of India-Pakistan relations globally. According to observers, it suggests that the Bhutto family still has a significant impact in the corridors of power.
