The story of Jamaluddin alias of illegal conversion racket in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh is no less than a script of a mafia don. Chhangur Baba's luxurious Kothi in Madhpur village of Balrampur was no less than a fort. Spread over three bighas, this kothi was present in this kothi to 40 to 70 rooms, CCTV surveillance, private power plant, solar panels, and exotic breed horses, dogs and jersey cows decorated from marble to 'VIP' stables. This was where Chhangur Baba used to keep his 'Special 50 Task Force'. For these youths, different rooms, food and drink in the kothi were provided by Baba.

This Kothi was the main hub of Chhangur Baba's black empire, where he operated a network of conversion. Investigation revealed that a part of the kothi was illegally built on government land, which the administration made a three-9 bulldozers with the help of three days.

'Special 50 Task Force'

Baba's 'spiritual soldier' Chhangur Baba had prepared a special force of about 50 youths, who believed in every order without questioning. These youths were involved in the activities of conversion at the behest of Baba. According to sources, these youths were brainwashed in Kothi itself. He was given training, in which every order of Baba was considered to be the last decree, whether it is legal or illegal.

Baba used to present himself as a religious leader and Sufi saint, and kept these youths with his 'spiritual servant'. According to investigative agencies, these youths were used not only for conversion, but also to create fear and pressure at the local level. In some cases, they were also used to spread violence and threaten people.

Sources claim that some of these youths were brought from other states, which were prepared mentally and ideologically by keeping them in the kothi. The 'rate card' of conversion and Premjal Chhangur Baba's network was organized and dangerous. The investigation revealed that he had prepared a 'rate list' on the basis of caste for conversion, Rs 15-16 lakh for Brahmins, Kshatriyas or Sikh girls, Rs 10-12 lakh for backward castes, and Rs 8-10 lakh for other castes.

Poor and helpless people were forced to give money, job or marriage lure or conversion through threats. Baba's network spread to Rajasthan, Lucknow, Balrampur and Pune, and he had converted thousands of people.

Expectation of foreign funding and international conspiracy

The ATS investigation revealed shocking that Chhangur Baba and his colleagues transacted more than Rs 100 crore in more than 40 bank accounts, including foreign funding from Gulf countries. Baba traveled to Islamic countries 40-50 times, which confirms his international connection. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is now investigating aspects of money laundering and terror funding, while NIA is also preparing for questioning in terms of terraler funding.
