Where did wife spend money, husband is asking this secret of wives from SEBI

RTI i.e. Right to Information is a law that was enacted to bring transparency in the government system, so that common people can get necessary information. But some people have become a means to solve their domestic espionage and personal troubles. Recently, such RTI reached the market regulator SEBI, which the officers themselves were surprised to read and started laughing at some! Think, when a husband directly asks Sebi, where is my wife invested? Then you can understand how much “personal” RTI is now becoming.

Husband asking for wive secret

The purpose of RTI was to provide the people necessary and useful information from government institutions, but now people have started finding solutions to their personal problems. The latest case is of a strange RTI, who approached SEBI, in which a man asked for complete information about his wife's demat account and investment.

This person wanted to know from Sebi whether his wife has a demat account, how much money is there in it, in which funds, in which funds, the dividend and the capital gains have been found, even the details of the FDR were sought. SEBI gave a clear reply to this that they do not have any such personal information. But sir, he did not agree at this, he appealed again, which was rejected again.

Who are 'RTI Frequent Filers'?

Some people have made a habit of putting RTI every week to complain some time to complain, and sometimes to ask the tangled questions. These are called RTI Frequent Filers. In another example, someone asked SEBI how to file a complaint of corruption against an employee. While there is a separate process for this, RTI's purpose is not.

IPO and NOC floods

Another sir, even for the IPO of many big companies, repeatedly asked for information about NOC (No Objection Certificate) from SEBI, companies were named Belrise Industries, Athner Energy, HDFC AMC, Tech Mahindra. SEBI finally replied that we do not have this information and also added that such questions show misuse of RTI law.

Thousands of questions every month

According to the report, SEBI gets 150 to 300 RTI applications every month, which contain 6,500 to 17,000 questions! Along with this, 300 to 800 appeals also come. Many people try to know everything from RTI instead of filing a complaint, while SEBI suggests the scores portal for this.

What do experts say?

Former Chief Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi says that RTI is the right of the people, but it should be used responsibly. In private matters, it is wrong to ask for information related to confidential or intellectual property and the law does not allow it.

According to RTI experts, the correct results are found only when the questions are clear, focused on public information and keep in mind the concerned department.
