Born on 1 January 1951, Nana Patekar was married in the year 1978. At the age of 27, Nana married Neelakanti Patekar. Neelakanti was the theater artist earlier. Later she started working in Marathi films. Nana had told in an interview that Neelakanti and how many rupees they were married.

The actor had said, “I had not thought about marriage earlier. But later married Neelu (Neelakanti), from whom I first met during the theater. It was the 70s when the house ration used to come for just 200 rupees. We spent 750 rupees in our wedding.”
Party was given to guests for 24 rupees
According to Nana Patekar, when he and Neelu used to be the theater artist, Neelu used to work in the bank and he used to get 2500 rupees a month. At the same time, Nana used to earn through the show. After spending 750 rupees at the wedding, both of them gave their guests a small party of gold spots (soft drinks), which cost only 24 rupees.
