Fri system launched in May 2025

The Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU), the Ministry of Telecommunications, launched a new system named FRI in May 2025. Its full name is Financial Fraud Risk Indicator. This system distributes a mobile number into three categories (medium, high and very high risk), so that it can be known how much danger is there of cheating from that number. This information is prepared by meeting many sources. Such as National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), Dot's Chakshu platform and intelligence reproid by banks and financial institutions.

The advantage of this is that banks, NBFCs (non-banking financial companies) and UPI services can decide which mobile number is to be more vigilant. If the risk of a number is high, then they can take additional steps for the safety of the user. Apart from this, the Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) Mobile Number Circulation List (MNRL) also prepares.

How will Fri work?

Digital Intelligence Unit shares this list with all concerned institutions. This list contains details of mobile numbers that have been closed due to failure in cybercrime, fraud, misuse or base verification. Many of these numbers are used in fraud.
