He told how young Kareena Kapoor was signed in that film on Akshay's insistence. The filmmaker also spoke openly about Bollywood casting.
Former CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani shared his views about the changing methods of Bollywood casting and increasing budget. Talking on YouTube channel Learn from the Legend, he recalled a moment during the construction of the 2003 film Talaash: The Hunt Beins, when Akshay Kumar insisted that Kareena Kapoor should be taken in the lead role.
Akshay put this condition in front of the makers
Pahlaj Nihalani explained how the casting decision was completely under the jurisdiction of directors and producers, in which actors rarely were involved. He said, “Earlier, producers and directors used to casting and did not speak in casting. Akshay Kumar was the first actor to interfere with me in casting and the film was 'Talaash' in 2002. He told me that we can start the film tomorrow, and you can give me whatever amount you want to give, but the heroine of this film will be Kareena Kapoor.”
'Talaash' was the most expensive film of the year
The filmmaker told that this 'Talaash' was one of the most expensive films of that time, it was made for Rs 22 crore. This was the first time in her career when an actor demanded a fixed actress. Pahlaj Nihalani told that that decision of Akshay was about the image. He completed his talk and said, “Sometimes, as the actors get old, they want to act with young actresses so that their own age would be less. This was the first time I heard this, but these days the actors decide everything and the producers work as a courier service.” Let me tell you, 'search' proved to be a flop.
Actor should be ashamed- filmmaker
The filmmaker also talked about the expenses caused by the stars and said, where one person worked, now 10 people are working there. Earlier there was a vanity van, but now actors demand six vanity vans. For a rest, for a kitchen, for a meeting. Shame should be ashamed, those stars ask for 6 vanity vans. Earlier, only the makeup man used to go with the actors, now they demand a separate hairdresser and just a person to show the glass. They give a bill of Rs 1.5 lakh without any matter. Earlier they used to bring homemade food, but now they want diet food. They need drugs at night and diet food in the morning. “
