Shubman Gill was made the captain of the Indian Test team before this series, and has made an impressive start in his new role. In the Edgbaston Test, Gill maintained a great balance of patience and aggression. In his 125-ball innings, he played accurate shots against England fast bowlers Chris Woakes and Josh Tung, which included the cover drive and great strokes on the off-side. At the same time, two 50+ scores in 3 innings on this tour are quite special for him.

Actually, Gill has been playing Test cricket since 2020. Prior to this series, he had scored only 2 half -centuries in 21 innings in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. But as soon as he got the responsibility of captaincy, he has completed 5 years of work in just 3 innings. He has been at number four in this series, which was earlier Virat Kohli's number.
