Quad meeting
Foreign ministers of Quad countries (India, America, Japan and Australia) condemned the terrorist attack on 22 April in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir in a meeting held on 1 July. 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were killed in this attack, while many were injured. In a joint statement, Quad said that the culprits, conspirators and funding of this attack should be brought into the dock without any delay.
All United Nations member countries have been appealed to cooperate in this matter. India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said in the meeting that 'India will take every necessary steps to protect its people against terrorism'. Quad, condemning all forms of terrorism and across the border, has reiterated the resolve to work together to stop it. Along with this, he also condemned this act of Pakistan.
Quad will work to increase peace, stability and prosperity
Along with this, Quad announced several big steps to increase peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific sector. First, this year the first training exercise of Quad Indo-Pacific Logistics Network will be conducted. This exercise will strengthen air transport capacity during natural disasters, so that regional countries can be rapidly assisted. Second, the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership will begin in Mumbai, which will increase marine and port cooperation.
Critical minerals Initiative also started
Quad has also introduced Critical Minerals Initiative, which aims to secure and diverse the supply chain of important minerals. This step will strengthen economic security and regional stability. Apart from this, Quad has given human assistance of more than $ 3 million for earthquake affected in March in Myanmar. Quad also expressed concern over tension in the eastern and southern China Sea and opposed efforts to change the status quo with force or pressure. Foreign ministers of Quad said that these initiatives will strengthen marine security, economic prosperity, emerging technology and humanitarian aid. India will host the summit of Quad leaders later this year, while Australia will hold a meeting of Foreign Ministers in 2026.
What is the quad after all?
Quad is an informal strategic platform known as 'Quadrallator Security Dialogue' (QSD), including four countries – United States (USA), India, Australia and Japan. A primary purpose of the quad is to work for an independent, open, rich and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. So that the safety and development of all countries can be ensured. The first meeting of the group was held in 2007 during the organization of Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN). It is considered a coalition of marine democracy and this platform is maintained by meetings, semi-niyal summit, information exchange and military exercises.
