A big report is coming out from the National Football Team. Coach Manolo Marques has resigned from his post after a mutual agreement with the Indian Football Association. In the meeting, the Executive Committee of AIFF decided to remove Marques from his post. He expressed his desire to do so despite one year left in his contract. The performance of the Indian football team in the coaching of Manolo Marques was very poor and that is why they took this important decision.
Manolo Marques resigns
Marques was appointed as the head coach of the national men's team in August last year. AIFF made him the coach of the national team for three years. However, suddenly he resigned after a mutual consent with AIFF. AIFF Deputy General Secretary K Satyanarayana said, AIFF and Manolo have decided to separate from mutual consent without any financial impact on both sides.
Let me tell you, India suffered a 0–1 defeat against Hong Kong on 10 June in the 2027 AFC Asia Cup qualifier campaign. In the coaching of Marques, Team India played 8 matches and he won in just one. He won his only match in a friendly match played against Maldives in March. This match was won by Team India 3–0. Hyderabad FC won the title of Indian Super League 2022 in Marquet's coaching and then this year FC Goa also won the Super Cup.
Team India's ranking also declined
Team India's ranking has also seen a significant decline. In the FIFA rankings, Team India was ranked 99th in the rankings till July 2023 but now it has fallen to 127th position. He has not won even a single match since November 2023 in competitive football. The team won its final match against Kuwait in coaching of former head coach Igor Steamac, which was replaced by Manolo Marques.
