If the world’s best batsmen are counted in T20, then Suresh Raina’s name will come in it. This batsman has left his mark in the shortest format of cricket from international cricket to IPL. His dominance in the IPL can be understood from the fact that Raina is even called ‘Mr. IPL’. Raina proved to be very useful for the Indian team in ODIs and T20s, but this batsman failed after a great start in Tests. Talking about Raina because today i.e. 27 November is his birthday.
In Tests, Raina could not achieve that position which he could do for Team India in ODIs and T20s. When India won the ODI World Cup in 2011, Raina was a part of this team. Along with Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he had won India many matches. He was the batsman to score the first century in T20 for India. He scored a century in the T20 World Cup played in the West Indies in 2010 and became the first batsman to score a century for India in the T20 World Cup and this format of international cricket.
failed the test
The work that Raina did to strengthen the middle order for Team India in T20 and ODIs, he could not do that work in Tests. Although Raina started the test in a great way. He scored a century in his first Test match. In the 2010 Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, Raina made his debut and scored a century. In this match, he played an innings of 120 runs. He was the 12th batsman of India to score a century in Test debut. But even after this great start, he could not play much for Team India in Tests.
When Team India toured England in 2011, Raina was a part of India’s Test team on this tour. There he played many matches but here his weak game in front of swing, seam and fast balls became a reason for his being out of the team. In Tests, he played 18 matches for India and scored 768 runs. During this, one century and seven half-centuries came out of his bat.
Dominated in ODIs and T20s
Of course, Raina did not play much for Team India in Tests but he was the life of Team India in T20 and ODIs. He won many matches for India with his brilliant batting. Raina mostly got a chance to bat in the last overs and this batsman troubled the opposition teams by playing short but effective innings in these overs.
If we look at Raina’s ODI career, he played 226 matches for India and scored 5615 runs at an average of 35.31. In the 50-over format, Raina scored five centuries and 36 half-centuries. In T20, this batsman played 78 matches for India and scored 1605 runs at an average of 29.18. In this format, he scored runs at a strike rate of 134.87. Raina also used to do part time off spin. In Tests, he has taken 13 wickets with his spin, 36 in ODIs and 13 in T20s.
