Russia recognized Taliban
The world had not accepted the Taliban government of Afghanistan openly till now, but now there has been a big change on this front. Russia has become the first country to give official recognition to the Taliban. The announcement was made after a meeting between Afghan Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Mottki and Russian Ambassador Dimitri Jhirnov in Kabul.
This decision was described by Mottaki as a brave step and claimed that now Pakistan, China, India and America are in touch with them. The question arises that why is the Taliban who has ever been called a terrorist, today his sudden demand is increasing? Let's understand.
1. Strategic location, every powerful country needs
Regardless of the Taliban, it is difficult for anyone to ignore Afghanistan's land status. This country is like a land bridge between India, China, Russia, Iran and Pakistan. This country, situated at the intersection of South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia, is strategically very important for every major strength.
Afghanistan has also been a part of the silk route in history. Now that China is advancing Belt and Road Initiative and Russia is looking for the new transport corridor, the importance of Afghanistan has increased further. The thing Kuljama is that the country which increases the impact here, can affect the geopolitical balance of the whole Asia.
2. Treasure of minerals, Taliban's greatest strength
Billions of dollars of minerals are buried under the Taliban occupied Afghanistan. According to the US report, there are minerals worth about 1 trillion dollars (ie 83 lakh crore rupees). Minerals like lithium, copper, cobalt, gold, iron ore and gemstone.
Keeping an eye on these resources, the US had made a deal with mining here in 2017, but in 2021 it remained incomplete. Now countries like China and Russia are trying to grab this opportunity. In the era of electric vehicles and batteries, the demand for minerals such as lithium has increased worldwide, and the Taliban can now use them as a weapon of bargaining.
3. Important link in oil-gas and railway corridor
Afghanistan has become important not only because of minerals, but also in terms of energy transit. Russia and Iran are looking for alternative routes to carry oil-gas from Central Asia due to Western sanctions, with Afghanistan beach. Schemes like Tapi Pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India), CASA-1000 power projects, and Five Nations Railway Corridor cannot proceed until the Taliban supports.
Talking with Taliban is now compulsion
Although the Taliban's staunch ideology, restrictions on women and human rights violations are still a matter of concern, the reality is that now international forces are giving priority to their strategic and economic needs. With the belief of Russia, it has become clear that if the Taliban remains in power, then the rest of the countries can practically improve its relationship with them, provided they see the benefit.
