Britain’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that students in England will have to study maths till the age of 18. Maths will be compulsory in England. Actually, England I students are very weak in the subject of maths. Keeping this in mind, it has been announced by PM Sunak. Prime Minister Sunak said in his first speech in 2023 that he wants people to understand when it comes to finance. However, critics of the British PM say that all children will be able to study maths only when the number of maths teachers in the country is high.
In his speech, Sunak said that Britain needs to rethink its approach to numeracy. He said, ‘A world where data is everywhere and statistics underline everything. Keeping our children in such a world without these skills undermines them. PM Sunak said that he wants people to have the skills to feel confident about things like finance and mortgage.
Why does PM want to teach maths to everyone?
In fact, recent figures show that around 8 million people in England have the same maths knowledge as primary school children. There are 60 percent students till the age of 16 who do not have basic knowledge of maths. In England, through the traditional A-level subject-based qualification, students have the option of choosing their own subjects between the ages of 16 and 18.
At the same time, after the announcement of Sunak, now students will have to study Maths till the age of 18 years. Compared to other countries of the world, only half of the students aged 16 to 19 in England study maths. In such a situation, Maths is such a subject, about which the children of England do not know much. Because of this, the children of England are lagging far behind in the field related to maths.
However, it is not yet clear that what will be the impact of this plan on the students who are studying Humanities or Creative Arts. This idea of PM is still at the idea level. There is still time for it to be fully formed as a policy. So far no system has been prepared by the government in this regard.
