Following the orders of the government, two prisoners were being shifted to another jail. President Guillermo Lasso Gave the information about the transfer on Twitter.
In the last year, 400 prisoners have been killed in the El Inca prison, which is said to be the most secure prison in the country. On Friday, two prisoners were to be transferred from here to some other jail, during which the violence broke out and nine prisoners lost their lives. The prisoners who were being shifted to another jail were suspected of being the masterminds of the earlier violence. Earlier on November 1, a gang war broke out during the transfer of prisoners. There was a huge explosion in which five policemen were killed. After this, Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso declared a state of emergency in two provinces.

In another tweet, the president posted pictures of inmates with their hands tied and others lying face down in prison corridors. He wrote that we will continue to act resolutely without any laxity in combating organized crime, which threatens the security and peace of the Ecuadorian people. These criminals fired indiscriminately at petrol pumps and police stations and hurled car bombs.

Eight people, including five police members, were killed during the attacks in the port city of Guayaquil. Lasso responded to those attacks by declaring a state of emergency and a night-time curfew in the provinces of Guayas, Esmeraldas and Santa Domingo de Los. He also ordered the deployment of troops to three provinces, which are home to a third of Ecuador’s 18 million residents. Ecuador has experienced eight prison massacres since February 2021, in which nearly 400 people were killed. Many of these were beheaded or burnt.
