In many countries including India, Diwali, the festival of lights, was celebrated with great pomp. Whether Pakistan, whether Sri Lanka, whether United Arab Emirates and whether America and whether Canada, many countries around the world were seen drenched in the celebration of Diwali. In the US, President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris also celebrated Diwali with pomp. A ceremony was organized at the White House on this festival of lighting the lamp, in which many American veterans and Indian Americans attended. The celebration was hosted by Biden and his wife Jill Biden.
Dance was also organized in the ceremony, in which dancers danced to Hindi songs in Indian clothes. During this, the people present there were also seen shaking. During the ceremony, President Biden along with wife Jill and Vice President Harris also lit the lamp. Biden thanked the Asian American community in the US, extending Diwali greetings to the more than a billion Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists who celebrate the festival of lights in the US, India and around the world.

‘We have the power to bring light to the world’

We thank you for making Diwali a part of American culture. Biden said, ‘Diwali reminds us that each of us has the power to bring light to the world. It is a choice and we choose it every day, whether here in America or in India which is celebrating its 75th year of independence. Biden also met with several Indian-Americans who attended the ceremony.
‘Celebrating the battle of light over darkness’
At the same time, US Vice President Kamala Harris said, ‘Tonight we will light a lamp with more than a billion people around the world and celebrate the fight of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and light over darkness.’ He said, ‘Diwali like many cultures reminds us to see the light in the world in each other and in ourselves. It also reminds us that we should fight for peace, justice, no matter what force continues to spread hatred and division.
