This incident is from Mansa district of Punjab. Just a day before the murder, the Punjab government had withdrawn the security of 420 people, including Moosewala. 29-year-old Moosewala had also contested the 2022 Punjab elections from Mansa district on a Congress ticket. In which he lost to the candidate of Aam Aadmi Party.

The real name of Punjabi Singer popularly known as Sidhu Musewala is Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu. His songs have also been in controversy due to gun culture. Talking about Musewala’s career, he studied electrical engineering in Punjab. After this, he went to Canada in 2016 on a study visa. In 2017, he released his first song ‘So High’. He has been accused of promoting violence and gun culture through his songs. In 2020, the then Punjab government led by Captain Amarinder Singh filed a case against him under the Arms Act. He was accused of allegedly promoting gun culture through his songs.
Case registered during corona epidemic
During the corona virus epidemic, a case was registered on Moosewala due to a viral video. In which he is seen firing with AK-47. He had joined the Congress last year before the Punjab Assembly elections. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was the President of Punjab Congress at that time, described him as a youth icon and an international personality. Musewala later contested the Punjab Assembly elections from Mansa constituency. But he lost to Aam Aadmi Party candidate Dr Vijay Singla by a margin of 63,000 votes.
