Russia’s ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, said, “The statements of Russian officials on our country’s nuclear policy are being distorted.” Antonov said that Western countries were dealing with the situation in Ukraine in an “irresponsible” manner. Tensions about nuclear war are being fueled by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO) stance and the continued aid being given to Ukraine. Russian presidential office Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and Russian parliament speaker Vyacheslav Volodin also said this week that Moscow would not use nuclear weapons first.
