All six people aboard the Antonov An-26 transport plane that crashed in Russia’s Far East have been killed. This plane disappeared from the radar on Wednesday. Russian news agencies, citing emergency services sources, reported the death of those on board the plane on Thursday. It is believed that this accident happened due to the old age of the aircraft. According to preliminary investigation data, the plane crashed in a nature reserve in the Khabarovsk region in Russia’s Far East.
The Taas News Agency report said that the plane belonged to a company that does technical checks at Russian airports. It told that the plane that crashed was 42 years old. The plane disappeared from the radar screen on Wednesday. The emergency services ministry said on Thursday that it had found the wreckage of the plane in an inaccessible area and was sending rescue teams on the ground. However, the ministry has not given any information about the death of the crew. But Russian news agencies have confirmed the death of the crew.
Accidents are happening due to aging aircraft
The news agency Tass and Interfax news agency, citing sources from the emergency services, said, “Preliminary investigation has shown that no one is left in the incident.” Russian aviation safety standards have been greatly improved in recent years. But plane accidents have become common, especially in remote areas. Most of these accidents are due to old aircraft, which often disappear from the radar and crash in the forests. Earlier in July, all 28 people aboard the Antonov An-26 twin engine turboprop were killed in the Kamchatka area. This plane accident also happened in the Far East.
