Sanjay Verma, Secretary, West, Ministry of External Affairs, said, ‘We have set up a control room in Adana, Turkey. Here 10 Indians are stranded in far-flung affected areas but all of them are safe. An Indian who had gone to Turkey on a business visit is currently missing. We are constantly in touch with his family and his company based in Bengaluru.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that India is sending search and rescue teams to Turkey along with medical supplies, relief materials and other equipments from Syria. This help is being done under ‘Operation Dost’. The search for survivors continues in Turkey and Syria, which together have lost more than 11,000 people. Foreign aid from many countries has started reaching this area.
The Foreign Minister tweeted, ‘Under Operation Dost, India is sending search and rescue teams, a field hospital, materials, medicines and equipment to Turkey and Syria. This is an ongoing operation and we will keep posting updates.
11,200 killed so far
According to the data released on Wednesday, 11,200 people have died so far in the severe earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday. According to information received from officials and health workers, 8,574 people have died in Turkey, while 2,662 people have died in Syria. Let us tell you that due to this earthquake that occurred in the early hours of Monday, there are conditions of great destruction in both the countries. Hundreds of buildings have collapsed like tree leaves and the search is still on for people buried in the debris.
