Nepal that the Supreme Court yesterday on Wednesday bikini killer And the French ‘serial killer’ known as The Serpent Charles Sobhraj Had issued an order to release him on the basis of his health, but the jail authorities here have refused to release him at present. Sobhraj is believed to have killed around 20 people in the 1970s.
The website India Today says that it has now been claimed by the Nepali prison authorities that the Supreme Court’s decision is “vague” and does not mention in which case he has been asked to be released. Charles Sobhraj, the son of Indian and Vietnamese parents, has been serving a life sentence since 2003 for murder.
The verdict was given by a bench of two judges
Earlier, the Supreme Court of Nepal had yesterday ordered the release of notorious serial killer Sobhraj on the basis of his health. According to sources in the Supreme Court, a bench of Justice Sapna Pradhan Malla and Justice Tilak Prasad Shrestha had given the decision to release 78-year-old Sobhraj from jail.
The Supreme Court of the country gave this verdict on the petition of Charles Sobhraj in which he claimed that he had spent more time in jail than the period prescribed for him.
During the years 1972 to 76, Sobhraj used to trap most of the tourists from western countries coming to Asia and later drugged them and killed them. The bodies of two of the women whom he had brutally murdered were found only in bikini. Due to his misdeeds of deceiving and deceiving people in a vicious manner, Sobhraj became infamous as the Bikini Killer and The Serpent.
Arrangement should be made to return home in 15 days
In its decision, the court asked the concerned authorities to make arrangements for Sobhraj’s return home within 15 days. In his petition, Charles Sobhraj had claimed that he had completed his jail term as per the relaxation given to senior citizens of Nepal.
There is a legal provision in Nepal to release those prisoners who have spent 75 percent of their sentence in jail with good behavior during imprisonment. He claimed that he had already spent 17 years in jail out of the given 20-year sentence and had already been recommended for release on account of good conduct. Sobhraj was caught in August 2003 from a casino in Kathmandu.
Sobhraj accused of killing about 20 people
He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Bhaktapur district court in 1975 for the murder of Laurent Carriere, a Canadian national, and Connie Jo Bronzich, an American national. Life sentence in Nepal means 20 years in prison.
Sobhraj spent 21 years in an Indian prison, which does not include the 21 days he spent when he escaped in 1986 by drugging a guard at the high-security Tihar Jail. On the occasion of his birthday party, he mixed this drug in sweets and served it to the guards. Sobhraj’s name is linked to the murder of many travelers (backpackers). Sobhraj is believed to have killed 15 to 20 people in the 1970s.
