Expressing grief over Sharif’s killing, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said he had a phone conversation with Kenyan President William Ruto after the incident. He told, “I have requested him to conduct a fair and transparent inquiry into the incident. He has assured to help.” Sharif’s mysterious death adds to the list of Pakistani journalists who claim to have faced harassment and death threats. There have been many such incidents in this country. The killing has stunned Pakistan’s journalist fraternity, with they demanding an impartial probe into the circumstances in which Sharif died. Shireen Mazari, a former human rights minister, claimed that the journalist was killed by a sniper, although she did not provide any evidence.
