According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.1 and its epicenter was 65 km south-southeast of Gorontalo at a depth of 147 km in the ocean. Tremors were felt in Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, North Maluku and Central Sulawesi provinces.
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency has not issued any tsunami warning. Due to the position of Indonesia on the Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, there is a high risk of earthquakes here.
