Imran Khan Initiates Negotiation With TTP: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that his government is in talks with some groups of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for “reconciliation” with the help of the Taliban in Afghanistan. The TTP, commonly known as the Pakistani Taliban, is a banned terrorist group based in the Afghan-Pakistan border region. It has carried out many major terrorist attacks across Pakistan.
The organization is accused of allegedly using Afghan soil to plot attacks. There were reports that the Afghan Taliban had released some hardline TTP militants, including its chief commander Maulvi Fakir Mohammad (TTP Attack Pakistan Army), after taking over the war-torn country in August. According to Friday’s news of ‘Dawn News’, Khan gave important information in an interview with the Turkish government-owned TRT World news channel.
Imran wants to forgive terrorists
Imran has said that there are different groups forming TTP and some of them want to talk to the Pakistan government for peace. He said, ‘Therefore, we are in talks with them (TTP Group Pakistan). It is a process of reconciliation. Asked if the government was asking terrorists to lay down their arms, Khan said, “Yes, we forgive them and they become ordinary citizens.”
Imran hopes from talks with TTP
To a question as to why the TTP was attacking Pakistan’s security forces during talks with the government, he said it was just a “series of attacks”. Khan said, ‘We may not reach any conclusion or agreement in the end, but we are talking.’ To a question whether the Afghan Taliban was acting as a mediator between the TTP and Pakistan, Khan said, “Since the talks were taking place in Afghanistan, so in that sense, yes.” Significantly, in the month of August alone, there have been 35 terrorist attacks on Pakistan. TTP has been attributed to most of these.
