When the police tried to intervene amidst the violence that broke out on both sides, they were also attacked. This whole controversy is going on since August 28, when the match between India and Pakistan was held in the Asia Cup. India won this match. There was a lot of anger among the fundamentalists due to India’s victory and Pakistan’s defeat. This was the day when protests broke out between Muslims and Hindus.
Both sides came face to face with each other in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday and started protesting on the streets. When British police intervened to stop the clash between the two sides, the protesters also attacked them and threw glass bottles. Not only this, the fundamentalists also attacked the temple and uprooted the saffron flag on it. On the incident of attack on the temple, Leicester Police said that “we will not tolerate such incidents”.

Anger between the two sides was born over a fake social media post which claimed that three Hindu youths tried to kidnap a Muslim girl. Hindu youth also started a march against the protest and poster made by Muslim parties regarding this fake post. When the two sides came face to face, the demonstration turned into violence. A large number of police were deployed to stop the violence, but they were also attacked by the protesters. Leicester Police has arrested two people involved in this violence. Police said one person has been arrested on suspicion of hatching a conspiracy to spread violence and another on suspicion of possessing a sharp-edged weapon.
