Google’s techie expressed pain on Linkedin, said- lost job after mother’s death

He said that for him it is like ‘being killed when he is at the bottom’. He had come back only 4 days ago after a long leave on the job. Actually his mother had died in December due to cancer.

Because of which he was already unhappy and then the job also went away. Software engineer Tommy York wrote on the career networking website Linkedin that, ‘I was fired by Google last week. I came to know about this on the fourth day after returning to my job. Earlier, my mother had died due to cancer for which she had gone on a long bereavement leave.

He further wrote, ‘I am tired and disappointed. I’ve certainly heard worse stories, including Expectant Parents’ layoffs and Googlers on disability leave. But this still feels like a slap in the face, like being hit when you’re down.’ Google announced last week that it was laying off 12,000 employees.

This take-off has been done by Google after several years of growth. Some employees realized that they lost their jobs when they were unable to access the system. Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai has insisted that the cuts have been made after careful consideration. York’s LinkedIn profile states that he joined Google in 2021. He also claimed that it was not clear how the layoffs were determined. He tried to find a reason in his circumstances as his mother was diagnosed with cancer soon after he joined them.
