retirement age Voices are often raised to increase, but in France, people are taking to the streets to reduce the retirement age. At present, there is a tussle between the government and the public. In the pictures that have come out quoting the media, people are seen protesting on the streets. French President Emmanuel Macron says that this reform is necessary to balance the pension system.

However, in protest against this, the protest started from the garbage movement can also be violent. According to media reports, the bill introduced in the House by French President Emmanuel Macron to reform the pension system has been approved. Late last Saturday, voting was held in the Senate regarding this bill. Let us tell you that this bill is being opposed across the country. Many people in Paris opposed the government’s decision. While sanitation workers continue their strike over the bill, students have planned to march to the lower house of parliament as opponents of the bill are pressurizing the government to back down. On Wednesday, around 5,00,000 people protested across the country.

appeal to vote against the bill

In view of his vision of making the French economy more competitive, Macron wanted to push through this pension reform bill. Various employee unions had appealed to MPs on Wednesday night to vote against the bill. Left- and right-wing MPs are opposing it due to apprehensions about the effects it could have on French citizens and the economy if it becomes law, while Conservative MPs were divided over it.

Retirement age increased from 62 to 64 years

Under these reforms, the retirement age will be increased from 62 to 64 years, which people have been protesting on the streets for several weeks. Senators have passed the reforms by 195 votes against 112. A committee will now prepare a final draft, which will be presented to both the Senate and the National Assembly for a final vote.

Employees’ organizations opposing this bill

According to media reports, most of the employees’ organizations of France are opposing this bill. They say that this will increase the tax on the middle class. Actually people are saying this because now they will have to work for more years to get pension and then they will have to pay heavy tax from their salary.

This is the side of the Macron government

On the other hand, the French government has its own argument that reform of the pension system is necessary. Now people will now have to work for at least 43 years, which is planned to be implemented from 2027. However, the government has given exemption in certain professions, which include police and firemen. The government said that the people of France live more, so they should also work more.

Pension system will be fixed by 2030

In this regard, Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne said that this reform will fix the pension system by 2030 and people will get more pension. He said that by doing more work, people will also pay more tax and its effect will also be seen on GDP. This was justified in order to save the French pension system from bankruptcy.

Opposition to government’s decision

Many people in Paris opposed the government’s decision. At least 120 people were arrested in clashes with Paris police, with reports claiming that videos of the protests were widely shared on social media. French broadcaster BFMTV posted the video taken at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
