NATO Country: Turkey has given the green signal to Finland to join Nato. The Turkish parliament passed a bill on Thursday, clearing the way for Finland to join the military bloc of Western countries. Turkey was the only country among 30 countries that opposed Finland’s intention to join NATO. Last week, Hungary also passed a similar bill, after which Turkey’s approval was awaited.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Ardoan had asked Finland to act on some terrorist groups, which Turkey has declared as terrorists. In the same month, he told that Finland has followed his instructions. Another demand of Turkey was regarding free defense exports, which Finland accepted. After the Russian war on Ukraine, Finland and Sweden expressed their desire to join NATO. Ukraine also had the same wish, against which Russia started a war.
Finland, Sweden fear Russia in the Baltic Sea
Any country military group or military group can become a part of NATO only after getting the No Objection Certificate. Turkey and Hungary were among the countries that did not give approval to Finland, while other 28 countries including America gave approval only after applying for it. After no objection from the Turkish Parliament, the Finnish government said in a statement that NATO membership would strengthen its security in the Baltic Sea region and northern Europe. Russia has dominance in the Baltic Sea and except a few countries situated on its banks, all have been opposing it. This is the reason why Sweden also wants to ensure its security by becoming a part of NATO.
The way to Sweden is not clear yet
Sweden’s path to join Neta is not yet clear. Turkey says Sweden has not yet taken action against those it considers terrorists. General elections are to be held in Turkey on May 14, before which the proceedings of the Parliament are going on here. North Macedonia joined Nato before Finland. After Finland’s joining, there are now 31 countries in the Nato group and if Sweden also gets the green signal, it will become a strong military group with 32 countries.
