Elections in Pakistan: Elections have been held for the Cantonment Board in Pakistan. In which PTI and PML-N have emerged as two big parties. PM Imran Khan’s party has performed very well.

Pakistan Cantonment Board Election: Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have emerged as the two major parties in the elections for 39 cantonment boards in the country. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), voting for the country’s cantonment boards was held on Sunday. Voting took place from 8 am to 5 pm. Cantonment Boards are semi-elected bodies, whose responsibility is to carry out civic functions in the cantonments.
Officially the results have not been declared. However, media reports have reported that the ruling PTI is at the top of these results, while former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N is at the second position. According to preliminary, unofficial results, Geo News reported that PTI got 63 seats, followed by PML-N with 59 seats, while independents got 52 seats. ‘Duniya News’ has reported that PTI has got 60 seats while independents have won 55 seats.
Where did PTI get the maximum number of seats?
Both the channels have reported that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has 17, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) 10, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) seven and Awami National Party (ANP) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP). Got two seats each. According to the news of Geo News, PTI has won the maximum number of seats at 18 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), followed by 28 in Punjab, 14 in Sindh and three in Balochistan (Elections in Balochistan). The PML-N won a major victory in Punjab, where it won 51 seats. At the same time, it has got only five seats in KP, three seats in Sindh. The main opposition party could not win a single seat in Balochistan.
How was the performance of PPP party?
The PPP failed to defeat the PTI in Sindh and could win only 14 seats. It has won the rest of the seats in KP. This means that the PPP has not got any seats in Punjab and Balochistan. Independent candidates have won 32 seats in Punjab (Cantonment Board Election). They have secured nine seats in KP, seven in Sindh and four in Balochistan. The MQM won all its 10 seats in Sindh, while the JI won five in Sindh and two in Punjab. The ANP won two seats in KP, while the BAP won two seats in Balochistan.
Why are cantonment board elections necessary?
There are 219 wards in 42 Cantonment Boards in the country, but elections were not held in Kamra, Cherat and Muri Galleries Cantonment Boards. In these, the candidates either won unopposed or the voting was postponed. However, this was an important election before the general elections to be held in the country in 2023, which will help the parties to gauge the mood of the people. Meanwhile, PTI leader and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that PTI has “proved” that it is the “only party” which has support across the country and in every constituency. “Today the real contest is with independent candidates. The position of (Pakistan) People’s Party and Noon League (PML-N) has been exposed.
