Videos of a leopard had surfaced in Pakistan on Thursday, a day after the police registered a case against an unidentified man for keeping the leopard as a pet.

On Thursday, some videos surfaced from Islamabad, in which a leopard was clearly visible, which is jumping on the walls and trying to attack people in the Defense Housing Authority Phase 2 here. It was brought under control after hours of hard work.
On Friday, the Islamabad police tweeted that its Sehla police station, under whose jurisdiction the DHA Phase II falls, has booked an undisclosed person under sections 324 (attempt to murder) and 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of the Pakistan Penal Code. A case has been registered against the suspect. Police alleged that the leopard was a pet in the house of an unknown person. In another tweet, the police said, “The suspect has endangered the lives of citizens by keeping dangerous animals. The search for the accused is on, soon he will be arrested and legal action will be taken.

Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman tweeted a video of the leopard, saying that ‘the leopard that escaped last night from a private zoo in Islamabad is healthy and alive at the animal rescue center of the old zoo. He said, “One of our employees was badly injured in the operation that lasted for six hours. The situation could have been even more serious for the common people and the animal.
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), which caught the leopard, has also shared a video of the leopard, in which it can be seen roaming around the enclosure. IWMB has informed that it is a male panther. The employees have named him “Deichai”. It said, “The male leopard is in good health at the rescue and rehabilitation center of IWMB.” The IWMB Scientific Committee will decide the next steps for the rehabilitation of the leopard. The leopard has been named Deetchi by the staff of the IWMB.
