More than 100 people have been killed or missing after a boat capsized in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Provincial officials said that the accident happened in the Congo river. Due to this, more than 100 people aboard the boat were killed or went missing. Talking to the news agency AFP, Nestor Magbado, spokesman for the governor of the North Western Province of Mongala, said that 51 bodies have been taken out. While 69 others aboard the boat are still missing. He told that 39 people have also survived in this accident.

Earlier, on February 15, 60 people were killed when a boat capsized in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This accident also happened in the Congo River itself. There were more people on the boat than capacity, due to which the boat sank. The country’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Steve Mbikai, had told that 700 people were on this boat. He had told that this incident happened in Mai-Ndombe province of the country. The boat had left Kinhasa province for Mabandaka a day earlier. The boat sank when it reached near Longgola Ikoti village in Mai-Nomadbe province.

Boat accident happened in January too

The minister told that the real reason for the sinking of the boat was more people than the capacity. More weight was also loaded on it, which became the reason for the accident. Mbikai expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. Also demanded a ban on those responsible in this incident. Even before this, such incidents have been coming to the fore in Congo. In January also there was a boat accident, in which two people died, while 20 people were not traced. Sources had told that this accident happened due to the seating of more passengers than the capacity.

Congo River the only way to travel long distances

Dangerous boat accidents are common in the Congo. Actually, roads are in bad condition across the country, due to which people prefer to travel by boat. However, due to this, more number of people board the boat. At the same time, more load is also loaded by the sailors. All these reasons become the reason for boat accidents. The Congo River is the only source of long distance travel for the Congolese. Significantly, the economy of the Congo is very bad and therefore the government is unable to pay much attention to infrastructure.
