China Taiwan Conflict: China has always been infiltrating Taiwan’s airspace, but earlier this month it broke all previous records. With the celebration of its National Day on October 1, China began sending its fighter aircraft to Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). This number was increasing every day, due to which relations with Taiwan are going through the worst phase in 40 years (China Taiwan Conflict Today). Seeing China’s aggression, US President Joe Biden even had to talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping. But China has nevertheless defended its action.

A Chinese official said on Wednesday that military exercises and warplane missions near Taiwan were necessary to protect the nation’s autonomy and the region. Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the cabinet’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said the exercise was primarily aimed at protecting the interests of the Chinese nation as well as protecting the vital interests of the peoples on both sides of the Taiwan Straits (China Taiwan Agreement). “The exercises of the People’s Liberation Army are necessary actions to protect the autonomy and territorial integrity of the nation,” he told reporters at a press conference to be held in Beijing in two weeks.

Told the Taiwan government responsible

Xiaoguang has blamed Taiwan’s independence-leaning government and its ties with outside forces for the escalation of tensions. Taiwan is a close ally of America (China Taiwan Dispute). Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen pledged on Sunday to defend the island from mounting pressure from China, after weeks of unexpected tensions with Beijing. Last Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Taiwan’s unification should be realized and that the best means for that was a peaceful way. After this, Wayne made this statement on Sunday.

What does China want after all?

Earlier this month, the Chinese military sent 56 planes in one day to the southwest offshore region of Taiwan. All these aircraft were in international airspace, but this raised fears that any wrong move could spark tension in the region. Taiwan believes that China’s move reflects the danger of controlling the island nation by military power, which China claims (China Taiwan Border Dispute). China and Taiwan were separated in 1949 during the civil war and they have no contact with each other.
