Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics: Six Tibetan right groups protest in Paris, China’s poll exposed

The keynote speaker at the demonstration was Tibetan filmmaker and former political prisoner Dhondup Wangchen, who will visit 22 countries to urge politicians, journalists and citizens to boycott the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

Six Tibetan Community Associations including Students for Free Tibet Tibetan Youth Congress, France; Yu-Tsang Association, France; Chushi Gangdruk; Domi Association, France; and the Tibetan Community Association jointly organized a protest in Paris on 20 November to campaign against the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The keynote speaker at the demonstration was Tibetan filmmaker and former political prisoner Dhondup Wangchen, who will visit 22 countries to urge politicians, journalists and citizens to boycott the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

During the speech, he spoke about his experience as a political prisoner in China and the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet. During his tour, Wangchen will record video messages from people around the world and submit it to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the end of his tour. The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) said Wangchen arrived in Paris on Wednesday, where she was received by the Tibetan community, the president of the SFT and other Tibetan associations at the Gare du Nord railway station.

Dhondup Wangchen to meet journalists, politicians and individuals

During his visit to Paris, Wangchen is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Paris 11 Mayor François Vaglin, Paris Deputy Mayor Jean-Luc Romero-Michel, European Parliament Member Rafael Glucksmann and senators and deputies of Tibet support. SFT France will coordinate Wangchen’s visit to Paris from November 18 to 23, 2021. The CTA said that as scheduled, he would meet with journalists, politicians and individuals to share his personal experience of the suffering of Chinese prisoners and the suffering of the Tibetan people inside Tibet after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It is expected that his story and emotional experience will bring Tibet to the forefront of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games.

However, the Chinese government acquired the right to host the 2008 Olympics with a pledge to improve its human rights performance in line with Olympic ideals. Although the promises were never fulfilled, the human rights situation in Tibet continued to deteriorate. He will also broadcast his film “Leaving Fear Behind” to the Tibetan people and will share his experience and pain in making this film. He will record video statements of individuals, journalists, politicians and others during his visit. The video will later be compiled and handed over to the International Olympic Committee at the end of the tour, as reported by the CTA.
