In the year 2019, Washington became the first state in America to approve this process. After this, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont and California also adopted it. New York is the sixth US state to allow human composting following Saturday’s seal from the state’s Democratic governor, Cathy Hochul.
How is the compost made of a human dead body?
A body is placed in a closed container along with selected items such as wood chips, alfalfa (a type of plant used for animal feed) and straw hay. After this, the body naturally converts this dead body into soil within a month, which can be used for planting flowers, vegetables or trees.
After the dead body turns into compost, the families are given the soil of the corpses, which they can use to plant trees and thus their close people can stay with them forever even after death.
A US firm, Recompose, has said the method of incineration could save a ton of carbon compared to cremation or traditional burial. Carbon dioxide emissions are a major contributor to climate change. Due to this, the heat of the earth remains in the earth itself, which is known as the green house effect. Proponents of human composting say it is not only a more environmental option, but also more practical in cities where land for cemeteries is limited.
