Taliban leader Anas Haqqani on Tuesday visited the tomb of Mahmud Ghaznavi, who targeted the Somnath temple in Gujarat. Anas Haqqani is the head of the Haqqani network and is currently an important part of the Taliban government. Anas Haqqani is the younger brother of Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

Haqqani wrote in his tweet that today, we visited the dargah of a famous 10th century Muslim warrior and Mujahid Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi. Ghaznavi (may Allah be upon him) established a strong Muslim rule in the region from Ghazni and demolished the Somnath idol. Anas Haqqani had earlier expressed his opinion against India in an interview given to an English news channel.

Haqqani said, India is not a friend of Afghanistan
Haqqani had said in this interview that Afghanistan is not a true friend of India. He criticized the Indian government as well as the Indian media. Anas Haqqani had said that India needs to change its policy towards Afghanistan. On relations with India, Anas Haqqani said that unfortunately, India’s attitude has been biased. India has fueled the fire of war for the last 20 years. Haqqani said that India has not done anything for peace so far.
Who was Mahmud Ghaznavi
Ghaznavi was the first independent ruler of the Ghaznavi Empire of Turkey. He ruled from 998 to 1030 AD. According to history, Mahmud Ghaznavi targeted the temple of Somnath 17 times and finally destroyed it in 1024 AD. Somnath Temple is a temple of Lord Shiva. Ghaznavi had targeted Hindu temples in India. These temples were storehouses of gold and silver and precious gems. Ghaznavi targeted these temples fiercely and took away their treasures too.
