The United States is set to end COVID emergency declarations on May 11, nearly three years after the country implemented large-scale pandemic measures to contain the spread of the infection, the White House announced. The OMB said this is in keeping with the administration’s previous commitments to provide at least 60 days’ notice before terminating wind-down PHEs.

What will change with the announcement?
Currently, the government is paying for vaccines, Covid tests and some treatments as per announcements. When they run out, these costs will be shifted to private insurance and government health plans.
The OMB said the US government will also veto a proposed bill in Congress that would end the Covid vaccine mandate for health care providers. Government data shows that the number of Covid cases in the United States continues to decline, although the number of related deaths is still more than 500 people.
