WhatsApp is most popular among users for messaging and video calls. There are not one or two lakh but crores of users on this platform. In such a situation, along with Meta, the government also keeps an eye on such accounts, which carry out any wrong activity from their account, or action is also taken against those who are suspected. Meanwhile, the instant messaging platform WhatsApp has banned more than 7.4 million (about 74 lakh) Indian accounts in April.
The popular Messenger app has recently been investigating increasing spam calls from international numbers. The platform has suspended 7,452,500 Indian accounts, of which 2,469,700 were banned before any reports from users. Earlier in March, the company had closed about 47 lakh Indian accounts by the app.

WhatsApp banned 74 lakh accounts in the month of April this year
Indian account is identified through +91 phone number. WhatsApp has provided these details in its monthly report for April 2023 under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Account will be banned for wrongdoing on WhatsApp
WhatsApp abuses are detected at three stages of an account’s life – during registration, at the time of messaging, and through user reports and block actions the company takes in response to negative feedback. In addition to responding to user complaints through the grievance channel, WhatsApp also provides tools and resources to prevent harmful behavior on the platform.
Platform made AI and ML system fast
According to WhatsApp’s spokesperson, the platform has accelerated its AI and ML systems to reduce cases like spam calls. The recent enforcement was to reduce spam calls by at least 50 percent. In User Grievances, around 4,377 complaints have been registered on the platform.
