IB Ministry Advisory: From the beginning of March, it will be mandatory for all private television channels to show national interest content for 15 hours every month. Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B Ministry) has issued a detailed advisory in this regard. According to this, in the uplinking and downlinking guidelines of television channels, content related to public interest will have to be broadcast compulsorily for 30 minutes daily.
The government has said that 30 minutes of public interest content, which is mandatory to be broadcast on a daily basis by private television channels, can be included in the programs broadcast by other television channels.
today’s big news
There will be no continuous broadcast for 30 minutes
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also said in an advisory that the broadcast of this content should not be continuous for 30 minutes and it can be prepared in different slots of a few minutes. It was said in the advisory, the time limit of 12 minutes prescribed for commercial breaks does not apply to the period for which content related to public importance is broadcast between commercial breaks.
TV channels will have to give monthly report
Private television channels will have to submit a monthly report on the Broadcast Services Portal. In November last year, the ministry had asked private television channels to broadcast this content for 30 minutes every day under new service obligations on eight themes of national importance and social relevance.
Preparation was from last year
These guidelines were laid down in the new uplinking-downlinking rules laid down by the ministry on November 9 last year. The new advisory has been issued on Monday after extensive consultations with private satellite television channels and their organisations.
TV channels got this permission
The government has also allowed sharing of content between broadcasters and re-broadcast on one or more television channels. The government has also permitted the creation of a common e-platform in the form of a repository of relevant video or text content from different sources, which can be used by television channels, for the purpose of broadcasting public welfare content.
stop from midnight to 6 am
The government has also banned the broadcast of this content between midnight and 6 am. Topics like water conservation and disaster management have also been added to the list of social topics of national importance and relevance.
