A report by CoinTelegraph states that McDonald’s China took the wraps off its Big Mac Rubik Cube NFT on October 8, and 188 of these tokens are to be given out as limited gifts to lucky customers and employees. The NFT has been designed keeping in mind McDonald’s new three-dimensional office structure in Shanghai, China. It was also inaugurated on the same day.
The most surprising thing about this is that at present the Chinese government is engaged in completely cracking down on cryptocurrency transactions. This step taken by McDonald’s China seems to be contrary to the government’s stand. A blog post states that it is built on the Confluux public blockchain and built in collaboration with a digital asset maker called Cocafe. The post states that each NFT is unique in itself, it cannot be broken or tampered with.
However, this is not the first time for a fast-food chain. Rival Burger King also launched its NFT campaign Keep It Real Meals in September. Which was auctioned on the NFT marketplace Sweet. Brands like Budweiser and Taco Bell also joined the segment earlier this year. In August, popular beer brand Budweiser featured a hand-crafted beer Rocket NFT in its Twitter display picture. It was bought by him for 8 ether, which at that time was worth around $26,000 (approximately Rs 19,64,054). The chain also registered an ethereum domain name beer.eth for 30 ethers which at the time was worth around $100,000 (approximately Rs 75,54,055). Taco Bell also entered the NFT circle earlier this year as it announced the sale of taco-themed GIFs and images on NFT marketplace Rarible.
