A total of 100 matches were held in the first edition of the tournament held in Delhi and the winner was given Rs 2.5 lakh as prize money.

India has consistently performed well in wrestling at the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. In the same year, all 12 Indian wrestlers won medals in the Commonwealth Games, out of which 6 were gold. Obviously, India and Indian wrestlers are continuously making their special identity in this game and in such a situation, many tournaments are being held at the domestic level as well. In a similar Mahant Shravan Kumar Memorial tournament in New Delhi, wrestler Jitendra won the title by defeating Lovepreet.
The winner gets Rs 2.5 lakh
This tournament was organized for the first time, in which India’s number one wrestler and Olympic medalist veteran wrestler Bajrang Punia also made his presence felt. Bajrang saw the performance of the wrestlers and praised them. The winning wrestler got Rs 2.5 lakh as prize money. Bajrang Punia and famous singer Hansraj Raghuvanshi presented the awards. A total of 100 bouts took place and the winners were awarded prize money according to their respective weight categories.
The main fight of the day was between Jitendra and Lovepreet. Tournament organizer Mahant Gaurav Sharma, who is also a world champion powerlifter, said a large number of people turned up to watch the mud wrestling at the Narasimha Hanuman temple in Chandni Chowk’s cycle market.
Bajrang encouraged
Praising the tournament, Bajrang said that such tournaments promote the game. He said, “Wrestling is gaining popularity and mud wrestling is our ancient sport. I am happy for the tournament and hope more wrestlers come next time. I enjoyed all the matches.
