Many fast bowlers of India emerged in the beginning of the 21st century i.e. in the year 2000, but like today they neither got much opportunity nor did they get enough guidance about international cricket. The result was that many fast bowlers were lost in oblivion at the same speed as they emerged. One such name is Tinu Yohannan. Where those people went will be their talk today.
Tinu used to come from Kerala. He was the first male cricketer from this state of South India to play ODI and Test cricket for India. Tinu Yohanan was a strong bowler and had the art of bouncing off the pitch. He played three Tests and three ODIs for India. In both formats, he made a mark in his debut match, but the failure of further matches was so heavy that he could not make it to Team India. When he took entry in the first class, he was considered a bowler with a lot of potential in bowling. Then one day Tinu saw the advertisement of MRF Pace Academy in the newspaper. When he went there, he got admission in the academy. Here he learned the new skills of bowling for four years from Dennis Lille and TA Shekhar. With the help from here, he got the benefit of being selected in the Indian Test team. In 2001, he was selected in the domestic Test series against England.

Wicket on fourth ball of Test career
Tinu Yohannan made his Mohali debut. He started Indian bowling in England’s first innings. Then took the wicket on the fourth ball of the match and his Test career. He took the first wicket in the form of Mark Butcher. Later, the second opener Mark Trescothick was also dismissed. In this way, he took two wickets for 75 runs in the first innings. In the second innings too, he took the wickets of Mark Butcher and Marcus Trescothick. In this way, he got four wickets in the first Test. India won this test. Tinu did not get any wickets in the second Test. He dropped out of the team. Then came back after a year. This match was played in New Zealand. He got only one wicket and his Test career came to an end.
Already dealt three including Chris Gayle in ODIs
In ODIs, he stepped out of the West Indies tour in the year 2002. Here he took three wickets in the first match and dismissed Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds and Ridley Jacobs. In the second ODI, Indian bowlers got a total of three wickets. Two of these were taken by Tinu alone. This time he drove Wavell Hinds and Ramnaresh Saravanan. He was also a part of Team India for the NatWest Trophy. But he did not get a wicket in the match against Sri Lanka. As a result, they were excluded. Then again he did not appear in Team India’s jersey. In this way, Tinu’s international career ended with 10 wickets in three Tests and three ODIs. At that time, he was only 23 years old.

Won medals in high jump at junior level
Tinu Yohannan’s father Tadatuwila Yohanan was a long jumper. He set a long jump record at the 1973 Tehram Asian Games. This record was retained for 30 years. Due to the atmosphere of sports at home, Tinu became active since childhood. Initially, he also went into athletics. Like his father, he chose high jump instead of long jump. Then also won the gold and silver medal at the state junior level. But he again adopted cricket. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Kerala from the 1999–2000 season. But he made a splash in the next season itself. He took 19 wickets at an average of 24. With this performance, he went to Team India. After being out of the Indian team, Tinnu again started sweating in domestic cricket. He took 24 wickets in the 2002-03 season itself. During this time his average was 22 but the call did not come. After this, there was a decline in his form. However, again in 2008-09, this fast bowler did wonders. He took a lot of wickets while leading Kerala bowling in that season, but by then India had many bowlers, so 29-year-old Tinu was not elected.
RCB did not feed in the cost of saving expenses
In 2009, Tinu was selected by the IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was scheduled to play. But then bad luck came in the way. The central government refused to give protection to IPL matches due to the general elections. In such a situation, the tournament had to go to South Africa. But while going there, the teams cut their squad. RCB separated Teenu from the squad. In such a situation, Tinu could not go to South Africa. A great opportunity slipped from his hand. If he had gone to South Africa, it is possible that he would have proved effective on the bouncy pitches there.
Tinu Yohanan, who took 145 wickets in 59 first class matches and 63 in 45 List A matches, is currently the coach of the Kerala team. Along with this, he has also worked to bring new fast bowlers in the state. Passers like KM Asif, Basil Thampi, Sandeep Warrier and M Midhun are his only disciples.
