Aidan Markram played in IPL for the first time.
South African batsman Aiden Markram believes that participating in the IPL will help him better deal with pressure situations in the next T20 World Cup. Markram played six innings in this league for Punjab Kings, in which his best score was 42 runs. He usually opens the innings for South Africa but was batting in the middle order in the IPL. He hopes that this experience will benefit from the World Cup. South Africa will play its first match against Australia in the T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi. The recent performance of this team has been good in T20 cricket. He has won three consecutive series.
But the problem with South Africa is that the eight players in the current team are those who also played in the 2019 World Cup. The team played badly in this tournament and was eliminated from the group stage. In such a situation, the old experience of choking in big tournaments will be in the mind of the players. But Markram does not agree with this. He said, ‘We are not coming with any kind of burden in this World Cup. Not everyone is scared about the World Cup. So far everyone is calm.
What did Markram say on IPL experience?
On the other hand, about playing in the IPL, Markram said, ‘It was a great experience. It has been good in terms of adapting to conditions and learning something at a higher level of cricket. After the IPL matches, I got a chance to interact with some of the best players, players who are considered to be the legends of T20 cricket. It was great to get some insight from him and apply it to our game. During this, he said on the experience of batting in the last overs, ‘In T20 cricket, whether in the World Cup or domestic or international series, the result usually comes in the last three overs only. It was good for me to get to experience such a situation. I am sure the matches in the World Cup will go till the last over. It’s about dealing with the pressure at a time where a game of two to three balls can change the outcome of the match.
Regarding the experience of playing on IPL pitches, Aidan Markram said, “Every ground is different. I didn’t expect that. But every field has its own challenges. It is not easy to bat on the pitches but if the batsman stays on then he can take the match away from the opposing team. But it is very difficult for a new batsman. Batting was the most difficult in Sharjah while Abu Dhabi was the easiest.
