Medvedev defeated Novak Djokovic to win the US Open
World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia has become the new champion of the US Open. In the final match, he defeated World No. 1 Serbia Novak Djokovic in straight sets in a match that lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes. Medvedev won this match 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 against Djokovic. This is the first Grand Slam title of the Russian tennis star. With this first big win, he washed away many of Novak Djokovic’s dreams. The Serbian tennis star’s career Grand Slam could not be completed after the defeat in the final of the US Open. Along with this, the wait for the 21st Grand Slam victory also increased.
If Novak Djokovic had won the US Open title, he would have been the first male player to win the career Grand Slam after 52 years. The last time Rod Laver made his name on all four Grand Slams in the year 1969. Earlier, Djokovic’s dream of winning Olympic gold in Tokyo was also broken. The world number one Serbian tennis star had won all three of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and French Open this year. But, Medvedev became an obstacle for him on the way to the US Open.
The one-time dominance that Medvedev made against Djokovic after winning the first set, remained intact till the end. The pressure on Djokovic in the second set of Medvedev’s lead was also clearly visible. After losing a point in the second set, Djokovic slammed his racket several times on the court. Earlier, Djokovic threw his racket in anger after losing the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics.
