ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup Final Preview: ICC has organized the Under-19 World Cup in the women’s category for the first time and its final will be played between India and England.
India’s Under-19 women’s team is one step away from creating history.
Under the captaincy of Shefali Verma, Team India is just one step away from creating history. India’s women’s team defeated New Zealand and made it to the final of the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup being played for the first time. For this title match, Team India will take on England on Sunday and will put all their efforts to win the match. No Indian women’s team has won any World Cup so far. If the team is successful in doing this work under the captaincy of Shefali, then it will be the country’s first World Cup in the women’s category.
Shefali, who has been part of the finals of two World Cups and one Commonwealth Games with the senior team, would like to return home after winning the Under-19 World Cup trophy. The senior team has reached the final of the World Cup on three occasions but could not cross the final hurdle even once. In 2005, India beat Australia by 98 runs, in 2017 by nine runs from England. Both these times the captain of the team was Mithali Raj. Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, lost to Australia by 85 runs in the 2020 final.
today’s big news
Shefali does not want to miss the opportunity
The youngster from Rohtak was also a part of the silver medal winning team of Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year apart from two World Cups. And now she does not want to let this opportunity slip out of her hands. On the eve of the final, Shefali, who turned 19 on Saturday, said, yes, have played many finals. It is important to go out on the field and enjoy your game. I have also told fellow players that don’t take tension, just give your 100 per cent, don’t think that this is the final. Just trust yourself.
In the semi-finals, India won by eight wickets against New Zealand in which their bowlers allowed the opposition team to score 107 runs for nine wickets. Leg-spinner Parshvi Chopra took three wickets for 20 runs while Shefali conceded just four runs in her four overs and took one wicket. Shweta Sehrawat’s unbeaten 61 helped India achieve the target in 14.2 overs. The team management will hope that Parshvi and Shweta show a similar game as well as the bat of stormy batsman Shefali runs in this final.
England is very strong
India will face mighty England, who topped the Super Six group by winning all the four matches. Due to poor batting against Australia in the semi-finals, the England team was reduced to 99 runs in 19.5 overs, but due to excellent bowling, Australia were bundled out for 96 runs and made it to the final. In this, her leg-spinner Hannah Bakers took three wickets for 10 runs in four overs while performing brilliantly. Captain Grace Scrivens took two wickets for eight runs in 3.4 overs.
