Pakistan’s star bowler Wahab Riaz, who is wreaking havoc with the ball in the Bangladesh Premier League, has received great news in the middle of the tournament. He has been appointed as the sports minister of the caretaker government of Punjab province of Pakistan. However, he will not be able to take part in the swearing-in ceremony, as he is currently busy in Bangladesh League and will take oath only after returning from there. The left-arm bowler took a total of 237 wickets in 156 matches for Pakistan, combining all three formats. He was also a part of the Pakistani team that won the Champions Trophy in 2017.
However, in 2019, Riaz took an indefinite break from red ball cricket. Taking a break, he had said that he wanted to concentrate fully on limited overs cricket. However, for the last 2 years, he could not even play limited overs cricket for Pakistan.

Making a splash in T20 cricket
Wahab Riaz could not get a chance to play for Pakistan since 2020, but he is doing wonders in Bangladesh League. In last 10 days he took 9 wickets in Bangladesh league. In the past, he had achieved the feat of taking 400 T20 wickets. He became the first player from Pakistan to reach this milestone. Not only this, he also became the sixth bowler in the world to do so after Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, Sunil Narine, Imran Tahir and Shakib Al Hasan.
Questions raised on team selection
In the past, after the coup in the Pakistan Cricket Board, Riyaz had also raised questions on the team. He targeted the selection. Riyaz had said that those players were being selected in the team, whose performance was visible only to Rameez Raja. He had also expressed his desire to see the laptop of former president Rameez Raja. The Pakistani bowler said that he wanted to see how Rameez’s laptop guides him.
